3 Configurations for Outdoor Wireless CCTV
Construction sites, parking lots, remote gates, well sites, ranches…
These types of locations have remote video surveillance needs where trenching for cable can be impractical. In these cases, an outdoor wireless CCTV system is an ideal solution.
Initial forays into long distance wireless security cameras have been cumbersome with line-of-sight required for antennas, disappointing distance ranges, high costs, and limits based on integration with old hardware. But now, as wireless router strength and speeds have advanced and Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS) video has emerged, the security industry is overcoming these obstacles.
2D Electronics has published a guide on “How to Implement Long-range Outdoor Wireless SNIPER CCTV” illustrating different configurations for 200 foot, 5 mile, and 15 mile ranges. The guide includes recommendations for routers, antennas, and cameras for a complete solution.

2D Electronics’ solutions include routers and antennas from TP-Link. At the heart of the system is their Ultimate Wireless N Gigabit Router. It creates a wireless network with speeds of up to 300Mbps and mitigates data loss over long distances and through obstacles. No line of sight is needed.
The router itself can reach distances of up to 200 feet. To boost the distance range, TP-Link offers a 2.4GHz High Power Wireless Outdoor Antenna and a 2.4GHz 15dBi Outdoor Omni Directional Antenna effectively reaching distances of up to 15 miles between the camera(s) and the router.

Because of the simplicity of installation and flexibility of system size without reliance on old CCTV hardware, 2D Electronics recommends SNIPER Cloud Cameras. These IP cameras have built-in video storage and come with a free cloud portal for access over the internet, eliminating the need for a DVR/NVR or software. When paired with the TP Link Router the camera can also manage NAS storage onsite very inexpensively. There are currently 4 models of rugged outdoor SNIPER cameras with options such as 1.3MP resolution, long-range IR, and built-in wireless.
“Having a high quality, low cost wireless option can be a huge problem solver,” said Mike Davis, President of 2D Electronics. ”Integrators often have to compromise on the number of cameras or the type of camera views they can offer and stay within budget. Now Integrators can add that extra camera in the parking lot, or across the street that they could not before.”
Every situation is different so 2D Electronics custom designs systems for each application. Contact 2D Electronics sales and system design at 800.683.6835 or email sales@2delectronics.com.

Looking for a system to monitor my cows during calving season. They are 6 miles from my home.
Tony, There are a couple of options. If you have line of sight between where you would like to place the camera and your home or barn where you want to monitor then you can use the long range wireless option. We can get a specific quote to you. However if you do not have line of sight, but you do have cell service we can design a system to include 3G (Cellular) communication for off location review.
